Quick Start Guide for Instructors

WileyPLUS / Blackboard Integration (using the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block)

This guide shows you how to quickly get up and running with the WileyPLUS / Blackboard integration, including how to pair your course to a WileyPLUS product, and add content to Blackboard using WileyPLUS materials. Additional details on features and tools are provided in the WileyPLUS / Blackboard Help topics.

Pairing your Blackboard Course with a WileyPLUS Product

  1. Log into your Blackboard Learn™ course.  If you aren’t sure how to do this, contact your campus Blackboard support for assistance.

  1. The courses in which you are enrolled as an instructor will be listed in the My Courses widget on the Blackboard homepage.

  1. Click the course name link to open the homepage for the selected course.

  2. On the left hand side of the screen is the Course Management area. Under the Control Panel, click Course Tools to expand this topic, and locate the WileyPLUS entry.

Note: If you do not see WileyPLUS listed, click Customizations from the Control Panel list, and select Tool Availability. Locate the WileyPLUS entries and make sure that the checkboxes for WileyPLUS are checked.

If WileyPLUS is not listed as a tool, please contact your Blackboard Administrator to confirm that the WileyPLUS Integration Building Block for Blackboard has been installed, configured, and is available.

  1. Click WileyPLUS to open the WileyPLUS Tool menu..

  2. Click the Get Started with WileyPLUS tool under the Support Tools section. If this tool is not listed, then your course has already been paired with a WileyPLUS Product ID. For example, if your Blackboard course is a copy of an earlier course that was used with the WileyPLUS Integration, the copy would likely retain the original Product ID pairing.

  1. If you were provided with a Product ID from your sales representative, enter it in the input box; otherwise, click the Browse link below this field to select your textbook from the WileyPLUS Course catalog. After you complete your request for a Product ID, it will be displayed on the screen; after the Product ID has been entered in the input box, click the Submit button.

  1. A confirmation page will be displayed. Verify that the correct text is displayed and click the Submit button to confirm and complete the pairing.

Launching WileyPLUS from Blackboard

After the WileyPLUS Product ID has been saved, a number of additional tools will appear on the WileyPLUS Tools menu. Some of the these tools can be used to access specific areas of WileyPLUS, while others execute specific functions within the integration.

For example:

  1. Click the WileyPLUS Read, Study & Practice link from the WileyPLUS Tools menu. This will access the online version of the textbook used with your course.

  1. Depending on how the Blackboard Administrator has configured the integration, a user may be presented with a privacy option before the tool is launched. This option determines whether the user's name and em-mail address are shared with Wiley. Electing to share this information makes it easier for Wiley Technical Support to provide assistance, if help is ever needed. Select a radio button to make your choice and click Launch.

  1. If a new WileyPLUS account is being created as a result of the launch, a user is presented with the WileyPLUS License agreement. Read the agreement, and click Accept to proceed.

  1. If this is the first launch of WileyPLUS from the Blackboard course, a new WileyPLUS class section is created and a welcome message is displayed. Note the recommendation to execute a WileyPLUS Content Refresh at your earliest convenience. Click Continue to proceed to the online version of the textbook in WileyPLUS.

  1. Click the Return to Blackboard link to close WileyPLUS and return to your Blackboard session. Note: If your Blackboard Administrator has configured the integration to open WileyPLUS content in a new browser tab / window, then this link will not be present; instead, you can simply close the WileyPLUS tab or window, and continue working in your Blackboard session.

Adding WileyPLUS Readings

As an alternative to using a WileyPLUS Read, Study & Practice link, which accesses the entire online textbook and other resources, links to specific parts of the textbook can be added to a Blackboard content area.

  1. From the navigation menu on the left, select a Content area. Note: Blackboard is highly customizable, so the content area you want to work in may have a different name, such as Week 1, Course Materials, etc.

  1. Within the content area, select WileyPLUS from the Publisher Content drop down menu.

  1. From the WileyPLUS Materials menu, select Add WileyPLUS Readings and Assignments.

  1. From the Add WileyPLUS Readings and Assignments menu, select Add WileyPLUS Readings.

  2. On the Add WileyPLUS Readings screen is listed the various readings from the text. Check the box for the readings for which you want links added to your course, and click Submit.

  3. This will add links in Blackboard to the WileyPLUS readings that you selected.

Adding WileyPLUS Assignments

As an alternative to using the WileyPLUS Assignments link, which accesses the assignment area of WileyPLUS, links to specific assignments can be added to a Blackboard content area. You may hear this process as "deep-linking."

  1. From the navigation menu on the left, select a Content area. Note: Blackboard is highly customizable, so the content area you want in may have a different name, such a Week1, Course Materials, etc.

  1. Within the content area, select WileyPLUS from the Publisher Content drop down menu.

  1. From the WileyPLUS Materials menu, select Add WileyPLUS Readings and Assignments.

  1. From the Add WileyPLUS Readings and Assignments menu, select Add WileyPLUS Assignments.

  1. The screen that follows will show all of the WileyPLUS assignments that have been assigned to the class section working with this Blackboard course. In the example below, no WileyPLUS assignments are listed. To access WileyPLUS and add additional assignments, click the Create and Schedule Assignments link.

  1. From the WileyPLUS Assignment tab, locate an assignment you would like to use. Click the assignment name to preview the assignment content and default policies. To assign the assignment, select Assign from the Actions drop-down, and click Go.

  1. From the page that follows, you can edit the start and due dates from the assignment, and other policies as shown. See the WileyPLUS Help guide for more information on this screen.

  1. After completing the options on this page, click the Submit button. A pop-window will appear confirming that the assignment has been assigned successfully. (Notice that the assignment status is Assigned, with reference to the class section and due date.) Click Close to close the pop-up window.

  1. Repeat steps 6-8 for other assignments you wish to assign. When finished, click the Return to Blackboard link to return to your Blackboard session. Note: If your Blackboard Administrator has configured the integration to open WileyPLUS content in a new browser tab / window, then this link will not be present; instead, you can simply close the WileyPLUS tab or window, and continue working in your Blackboard session.

  1. In Blackboard, the Add WileyPLUS Assignments screen now lists the WileyPLUS assignments that were assigned. Place a check in the box to the left of the assignment title(s) and click Submit.

  1. A link to the selected assignment(s) will be added to the content area in Blackboard; a column for each assignment will also be added to the Blackboard Grade Center, to which the scores from WileyPLUS will be synchronized.
